Donations & DGR (Tax Deductible) Receipts
Fellow DGR friends (Humanitix is a registered DGR charity too), you are going to love this!
For a donation (gift/contribution) to be tax deductible, it must be made to an eligible DGR entity. To learn more, please refer to https://www.ato.gov.au/Non-profit/Gifts-and-fundraising/
For New Zealand donations, please visit https://www.ird.govt.nz/topics/income-tax/tax-credits/tax-credits-for-donations to learn more.
We’ve built our platform so you can automate the issuance of DGR receipts on donations through the platform. To do so follow these steps:
- Create the donation "ticket":
- Click "Tickets >> Ticket Types";
- Add "Donation" as a ticket type;
Pro Tip: you can set a few donation options (fixed amounts) for your patrons to choose from. Simply click the "Settings" gear/cog icon next to your donation, toggle ON "Donation Options", and add in your options.- Click "Save".
- Fill in your DGR details:
- Click "Payments and Fees >> Settings";
- Scroll down to the bottom and select "Yes" at the "DGR Receipts" section;
- Put in the details required for your DGR Receipts:
- Charity Name;
- Charity ABN;
- DGR Description - this is optional;
- Donation Percent - put "0" if your general tickets are not deductible (i.e. only the optional donations are DGR eligible).
- Click "Save".
Partial DGR Receipts on Tickets
For some events and ticketing, you can split a receipt so part of the purchase is tax deductible.
As an example you can sell a $300 ticket and make it 50% deductible, 50% a normal receipt.
Please note that with this feature whereby you can split a ticket into a partial DGR receipt, we at Humanitix cannot give you any advice on what percentage you can or should do, you need to get your own legal and accounting advice for this.
If you are eligible to do this, you can event-by-event follow these steps to set it up:
- Click "Payments and Fees >> Settings";
- Scroll down to the bottom and select "Yes" at the "DGR Receipts" section;
- Put in the details required for your DGR Receipts:
- Charity Name;
- Charity ABN;
- DGR Description - this is optional;
- Donation Percent - this will apply to all tickets so be careful! For example if you set it to 50%, and your event has a $300 ticket, people will receive a receipt which is 50% a normal tax receipt ($150), and 50% a DGR receipt ($150). Pure donations through the optional donation ticket type will still be treated as 100% a DGR receipt.
- Click "Save".
